What Are Wage Subsidies?

Wage subsidies are government-funded programs that reimburse a portion of employee wages to support employers in hiring youth, newcomers, people with disabilities, and other equity-deserving groups. They are commonly offered by the Government of Canada through Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), and other government departments.

Depending on the program, employers may receive up to 100% wage coverage – in some cases, up to $30,000 per net new staff member.

FAQ

What are wage subsidies, and who provides them?

Wage subsidies are funding programs offered by the government such as departments like Employment and Social Development Canada, Natural Resources Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada to help employers hire youth, newcomers, and other equity-deserving groups. These can cover part or all of a staff member’s wages.

How much can I receive per employee?

It depends on multiple factors including type of organization, location, duration of employment, and more. Programs typically cover 50%-100% of a hire’s salary. Historically, the amount can range from $5,300 per youth, while other programs can offer up to $30,000 per role.

Why should I pay for wage subsidy support if funding isn't guaranteed?

Like other grant writing services, our pricing reflects the time and expertise involved. While we can’t guarantee approval, our clients benefit from our extensive experience and a significantly higher chance of success.

Who is this service for?

Nonprofits, charities, social enterprises, and small to medium-sized businesses looking to grow their green workforce. We specialize in youth hiring.
