Youth Green Jobs Network Community Guidelines

Welcome to the Youth Green Jobs Network!

In this group, we share entry-level green job opportunities across (what is known as) Canada and encourage networking amongst members within the group.

What is a green job exactly? These are jobs that aim to preserve or restore the natural environment and contribute to the creation of a sustainable future. Green jobs are typically involved in, but not limited to, jobs in the forest sector, parks, conservation, natural resource management, environmental education, sustainable food systems, climate change, carbon sequestration, species maintenance and recovery, water quality and quantity, and more.

What is an entry-level job? An entry-level job is a job that is designed for students, recent graduates, or youth in a given career field that typically requires little to no prior experience in the field.

The administrators of the group will share job postings daily, but we also welcome members of the group to share postings of their own. Postings will be approved based on the following criteria:

The job focuses on the environment, sustainability, and social impact.

  • The job is an entry-level job requiring 0-5 years of related experience.

  • The job is a paid position located in Canada.

  • The job listing provides a salary range or hourly pay - not necessary but highly recommended!

  • The job listing specifies whether it is limited to Canadian residents or open to international students and newcomers - not necessary but highly recommended!

  • The job listing being shared has not been posted in the Youth Green Jobs Network in the last 7 days.

We welcome members to share these postings with their network, however, be sure to credit the Green Career Centre for sourcing the job posting. Repeat violations of plagiarism will result in the member in violation to be removed from the Youth Green Jobs Network.

VOLUNTEER POSTINGS

Though the Youth Green Jobs Network mainly shares paid entry-level green job opportunities, we also welcome volunteer postings. Each month, we will accept around 2 - 4 volunteer opportunities to be shared with the group.

JUSTICE, EQUITY, DIVERSITY, INCLUSION

The issue of sustainability is complex and ever-changing. The Green Career Centre recognizes that only through the purposeful and systematic inclusion of diverse voices can we address the environmental and social issues that our society faces. In order to dismantle the systemic racism, socioeconomic disparities, and educational inequities in the realm of sustainability, we encourage members to only share job postings from organizations committed to implementing the principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI). J.E.D.I Collaborative defines these terms as the following:

“Justice -  Dismantling barriers to resources and opportunities in society, especially in STEM fields, so that all individuals and communities can live a full and dignified life.

Equity - Allocating resources to ensure everyone has access to the same opportunities. Tackling equity issues requires naming and acknowledging that advantages and barriers exist and an understanding of how past inequities contribute to present-day impacts.

Diversity - All the differences between us that determine which advantages or barriers we encounter in our lived experience. We seek to cultivate diversity across gender identity, ability, ethnicity, sexuality, education, and other demographic factors as well as diversity in lived experience and ways of thinking.

Inclusion - Fostering a sense of belonging by centring, valuing, and amplifying the voices, perspectives, and lived experience of those who have historically and contemporarily experienced more barriers based on their identities.”
