Community Researcher

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment period;

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, or international student* for the duration of the program;

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations; and

  • Will not be holding another Canada Summer Jobs position at the same time.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Researching underrepresented youth in the context of career development professionals at higher education institutions

  • Writing, editing and publishing a brief and toolkit for use by those researched

  • Organizing and leading a series of participatory and community oriented focus groups and interviews with underrepresented youth and career development professionals at higher education institutions

  • Researching relevant literature as it pertains to green jobs and skills in what is currently Canada

  • Reading required community-based and participatory methods as well as policy readings assigned

  • Completing the TCPS 2 Tutorial CORE

  • Reviewing consent form and protocols on how to conduct focus groups, surveys and interviews

  • Sorting out logistics with procurement and payments

  • Contacting career development centres to promote research projects and call for focus groups and interviews

  • Reviewing Google calendar email invites and community outreach emails

Other 

  • Understanding of the organization, its purpose, history, policies and programs

  • Represent the organization in a professional and congenial manner in videos and in meetings

  • Delegation or sharing of duties with others as necessary 

  • Other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional written and verbal language skills

  • Previous research experience

Assets:

  • Experience working on community and participatory research projects

  • Bilingualism in English and French
