Social Media Community Manager

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment period;

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, or international student* for the duration of the program;

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations; and

  • Will not be holding another Canada Summer Jobs position at the same time.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating the production and dissemination of communication materials - social media (Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.), electronic newsletters, website text, videos, photos, print materials (posters, leaflets, brochures, signage, event materials), Canva Pro templates, media releases, correspondence, presentations, etc.

  • Writing and/or designing (or working with a Graphic Designer) communication materials

  • Updating and maintaining brand guidelines and enforce style guidelines in all communications mediums 

  • Overseeing the distribution of marketing materials including electronic newsletters, posters, brochures, event signage, etc.

  • Documenting events with videos, photography and social media posts.

  • Coordinating community engagement and outreach activities, including booth management, booking, training and scheduling

  • Assisting in the development and implementation of communication strategies, materials and tools to build awareness of the Organization and our programs 

  • Garnering press and publicity for the Organization, its people, events and initiatives, through sending out press  releases, submitting stories to press outlets, and soliciting journalists, freelance journalists and student writers to write about the Organization, its people, events and projects 

  • Ensuring the Organization’s website is up-to-date, and all links are working

  • Creating, executing, monitoring and evaluating social marketing campaigns 

  • Routinely monitor the Organization’s engagement (web, social media, electronic newsletter) and online presence on relevant online communities and websites 

  • Liaising and collaborating with others as necessary to support their communication needs 

  • Coordinating the Organization’s speaking engagements and media appearances 

  • Working with relevant influencers and partners to grow our social following organically

  • Responding to queries through social networks

Other 

  • Understanding of the organization, its purpose, history, policies and programs

  • Represent the organization in a professional and congenial manner in videos and in meetings

  • Delegation or sharing of duties with others as necessary 

  • Other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications:

  • A portfolio of creative works available for the assessment of skills in social media during the application process

  • Highly creative and community-oriented

Assets:

  • Experience writing captions, emails or blog posts

  • Experience managing social media channels

  • Bilingualism in English and French
